CHRONOLOGY OF EVENTS LEADING UP TO DEFECT DECISION
❖ May 2023
On May 17, 2023, HMC notified HMA’s NASO of a condition identified during vehicle assembly involving certain model year 2023 Hyundai Palisade vehicles produced between April 28, 2023 and May 5, 2023 for sale in the U.S. These vehicles were equipped with brake boosters containing diaphragms that may become unseated due to improperly manufactured assembly housings by the supplier. HMA immediately began efforts to identify potentially affected vehicles through initiation of a port campaign.
By May 27, 2023, HMA identified several vehicles from the affected production range that were not retained at the port prompting further investigation at vehicle processing centers and dealers. Based on this information, NASO escalated the investigation and conducted a review of field reports and claims for incidents involving sold 2023 Palisade vehicles in the U.S. market. No reports or claims related to the subject defect condition were found in either market.
❖ June 2023
On June 1, 2023, HMA identified additional vehicles from the affected production range that were released from ports and vehicle processing centers. Based on this information, NASO convened it’s North America Safety Decision Authority (“NASDA”) and decided to initiate a safety recall campaign to address all potentially affected model year 2023 Hyundai Palisade vehicles sold in the U.S.
❖ As of the date of this filing, Hyundai has confirmed there are no unique incidents associated with the subject defect condition in the U.S. Additionally, there are no confirmed crashes, injuries, or fires related to this condition.
❖ On June 22, 2023, Hyundai is amending the previously submitted chronology to correct a production date range error.
