This TSB has been revised to add a procedure to index the oil pump / balance shaft sprocket. Not properly indexing the sprocket may cause an engine vibration, mostly noticed at 3500-4000 rpm. The warranty information table has also been changed.

 

DESCRIPTION:

Some 2001 MY 2.4L Sonata and Santa Fe vehicles, customers may complain of one or more of the following conditions:

  1. Rough running.
  2. Rough idle.
  3. Lack of power at low rpm.
  4. Check engine light on (DTC P0335 crankshaft position sensor malfunction).

This condition may be caused by the exhaust camshaft coming out of time.

A new timing belt cover P/N 21360-38214-D [easyazon_cta align=”none” identifier=”B00EUB39B2″ key=”small-light” locale=”US” tag=”hyundaioemdtc-20″] that incorporates a timing belt guide has been installed on vehicles produced since January 30, 2001.

Vehicles that experience the condition described above should be updated with the new timing belt cover

DESCRIPTION

Some Elantra vehicles may have a rattle/buzz/tapping noise from the accelerator cable.  This noise is usually described as a body noise heard near the base of the windshield.

DESCRIPTION:

Incorrect operation of the oil temperature sensor may result in the following symptoms:

  • “Check Engine” Light illuminated
  • Diagnostic Trouble Codes as shown below:
DTC DESCRIPTION 2007 ELANTRA SHOP MANUAL
P0711 A/T temperature sensor – rationality check AT-41
P0712 A/T temperature sensor – short circuit AT-47
P0713 A/T temperature sensor – open circuit AT-50

NOTE:  Do NOT replace the transaxle if these fluid temperature sensor codes are active.  Instead, follow the repair procedure shown below.
