) is recalling certain 2019 Veloster vehicles. In certain side impact crashes, the driver’s door latch housing and locking cable can become damaged, allowing the driver’s side door to open.
Remedy
Hyundai
will notify owners, and dealers will replace the driver’s side door latch assembly and lower channel, free of charge. The recall began June 17, 2019. Owners may contact Hyundai

As required by federal law, dealers must not deliver new vehicles for sale or for lease to customers until all open recalls have been performed. Dealers should also perform all open recalls on used vehicles, demo and rental vehicles prior to placing them into customer use and whenever an affected vehicle is in the shop for any maintenance or repair.

Motor America is conducting a safety recall to replace the driver side (LH) door latch assembly and lower door channel on certain model year 2019 Hyundai
Veloster vehicles produced from February 9, 2018 through January 30, 2019 by Hyundai
Motor Company (“HMC”) in South Korea.
The affected vehicles include:

The recall affects approximately 12,500 vehicles.

is initiating this action to ensure the safety and quality of its vehicles and the continued satisfaction of its customers.
Description
In certain side impact crashes the driver door latch housing and cable can become damaged allowing the driver’s door to open.
Service Action
Reservation – Always check the Vehicle Information Screen in WebDCS for open campaigns and recalls, and advise the customer on time requirements.
- This recall can be completed quickly and does not require a hoist.
Readiness – Review this announcement and the accompanying FAQs with all Service and Parts staff including
Reservationist/BDC. Also, complete all applicable training, check your reservation capacity settings (you can set separate capacities for every recall/campaign), confirm email addresses for campaign appointments, and that you have all necessary tools, campaign parts and shop equipment as needed.
Reception – Always check the Vehicle Information Screen in WebDCS for open campaigns and recalls, and print a copy for technicians. Provide SRC or an alternative vehicle, as needed. If a customer has declined the campaign, note this on the repair order and request the customer’s signature next to the statement.
Repair – Always plug in the GDS before starting the repair. Make sure to complete an MPI on all vehicles and Quality Control your work.
- This recall requires interior panels to be removed. Make sure to replace any broken clips or damaged seals.
- Always quality check your work and and clean any panels that may become dirty.
- If a part is found in need of replacement while performing Recall Campaign 183 and the affected part is still under warranty, submit a separate claim using the same Repair Order. If the affected part is out of warranty, submit a Prior Approval Request for goodwill consideration prior to performing the work.
Return – Review all completed campaigns/recalls and repairs to answer any customer questions. Also, schedule the customer’s next service.
Reconnect – Follow up for customer satisfaction.

This recall has been posted with NHTSA. Hyundai
will notify all owners of the vehicles described above to return their vehicles to their Hyundai
dealers for repair. Customer notification letters are scheduled to be mailed starting May 2019.

Description: This bulletin describes the procedure to replace the driver’s side door latch and lower door channel on certain 2019MY Veloster (JS) and Veloster (JS N) vehicles. In certain side impact crashes, the driver’s door latch housing and cable can become damaged allowing the driver’s door to open.

NOTE 1: Submit Claim on Campaign Claim Entry Screen
NOTE 2: If a part is found in need of replacement while performing Recall Campaign 183 and the affected part is still under warranty, submit a separate claim using the same Repair Order. If the affected part is out of warranty, submit a Prior Approval Request for goodwill consideration prior to performing the work.
Service Procedure:
- Open the driver’s side door (A).
NOTE
Be sure to place the driver’s side window in the fully rolled up position.
- Using an automotive trim removal tool, gently pry and remove the front inner door cover (B).
- Open and remove the trim mounting cap (C), loosen and remove the screw.
Tightening Torque:
2.8 ~ 3.6 lb-ft (3.9 ~ 4.9 Nm)
- Pull the front door trim at the lower edge (D) to separate the trim.
NOTICE
Be careful not to damage the clips. If the trim clips are damaged, replace them with new ones.
- Release the lock (E) and remove the door inside handle cage.
- Disconnect the outside door handle connector (F).
- Loosen and remove the lower door channel mounting nuts (J).
- Disconnect the door trim connection connectors (H).
- Partially separate the door trim seal section (I).
NOTICE
Be careful not to damage the door trim seal. If it gets damaged, replace it with a new one.
- Loosen and remove the lower door channel mounting nuts (J).
Tightening Torque:
2.8 ~ 4.3 lb-ft (3.9 ~5.8 Nm)
- Remove the lower door channel (K).
- Loosen and remove the door latch mounting screws (L).
Tightening Torque:
5.0 ~ 7.9 lb-ft (6.8 ~10.7 Nm)
- Remove the hole plug (M).
- Loosen and remove the outside handle mounting bolt (N).
Tightening Torque:
5.7 ~ 8.6 lb-ft (7.8 ~11.7 Nm)
- Pull the door handle out slightly (O) and remove the door cover (P).
- Push the outside handle (R) to the right and remove it.
- Partially loosen the door latch rod mounting bolt (S).
Tightening Torque:
2.8 ~ 5.7 lb-ft (3.9 ~7.6 Nm)
- Squeeze the upper and lower sides of the door latch rod mounting clip (T) at the same time and remove it.
NOTE
When removing the mounting clip, wrap the end of the tool with tape.
- Remove the door latch (U).
- Take care not to damage the trim seal when removing the latch cable (V).
NOTICE
Be careful not to damage the door trim seal. If it gets damaged, replace it with a new one.
- Unclip the rod lock (W) and remove the rod (X).
- Remove the latch rod (Y) from the door latch (Z) that was removed from the vehicle. Keep it as it is needed for the new door latch.
- If vehicle is Smart Key equipped, remove the Smart Key wire (AA) from the door latch (BB) that was removed from the vehicle. Keep it as it is needed for the new door latch.
- If vehicle is Smart Key equipped, remove the wire mounting connector (CC) from the door latch. Keep it as it is needed for the new door latch.
NOTICE
Be careful not to damage the mounting connector. If it gets damaged, replace it with a new one.
- Using the new door latch and new lower door channel, reinstall the removed parts in reverse order of removal.

- If vehicle is Smart Key equipped, be sure to reuse the wire mounting connector, wire, and door latch rod on the new door latch.
- If vehicle is non-Smart Key equipped, be sure to reuse the door latch rod on the new door latch.
